Just got back from a 2 hour MFI consultation.

6k for a kitchen I liked.

I only have a small kitchen!!

350 quid for a stainless steel kick plate!

225 quid for a mixer tap!

M*th*f*ck*rs!!!

Im not paying that. Must be a more less-line MFI pockets way.

6K eh.. I have a project lined up at my flat in Baron's Court when we land in November.. Kitchen and Bathroom are fighting it out for the first to be refitted..

MFI good quality stuff? Had a look at IKEA online, and while it looks great can't help but feel it's gunna start falling apart after a year or so..? :?

Is that 6K fitted? Or just a load of boxes and a screwdriver?

Had many quotes for the kitchen in my old house from 5-8k. Bollocks to it all! went to Ikea and did it all myself for 3k ish including a range cooker!! As for the splashback for the cooker £35 for 3mm aluminium sheet cut to size at Weightlifter trucks
Best base units i have come across well deep! No pipe space at back so you have to be clever with gas/water pipes

Waheeyyy ... This I know all about !! What I do for a living !! Own my own building firm called - DelWood...

Fit kitchens and bathrooms all day long !

Going back to your quote Jez, 6K is maybe a little over priced but the worse thing is not the price but the shitty MFI fitters !! No pride in their work, and as they are paid by what they do everything is rushed !! My STRONG advice to you is use a local reputable builder/kitchen fitter! If they are any good they will have accounts with all the local suppliers ie - Howdens, Waterline, Crown, Franke etc etc.. Not only will they beat that price I guarantee they take more time over doing a far better job !!

Thats how I can afford all my toys !! Exclusive finishes, therefore exclusive pricing !!

Hope this helps !!!

Ah thanks guys.

I think 6k is very excessive and it is a small kitchen.

What Im thinking of doing is buying the units online (I like the red burgundy polished style cabinets).

Anyone had any experience with these puppies:

Im wondering what the quality of the cabinets is like? I can either get a local fitter to help/or do the lot or even just install the work tops. Im after something better than laminate and was looking at the Coran solid surfaces.

Are these pig to fit?

I am currently looking at using B&Q units. A solid oak work top from a timber yard, Kilned and oiled and 3" thick. And fit the rest my self, fittings from trade suppliers etc...

I have got a mixer tap from Ikea that was £45 and is now 2 years old and going great guns. Everything else from Ikea I have bought is good, Ikea is good quality if you get to the top third of the range, think Raleigh bikes. The £200 full susser get's you in the shop, the Dyna Tech is the quality bike that will last. All my Ikea stuff is M-Trax with LX.

Jez, just like del said, don't even think about mfi or even moben for that matter..all there fitters are paid on jobs, all they will do is rush and make a mess.
I pulled a 6 month old £25.000 moben kitchen out of a house 2 years ago and replaced it with a solid oak one. And i can honestly say i've never seen such a bodge
Use the CAD drawings that mfi gave you and take them around all your local cabinet makers/kitchen specialists for quotes.
Just a shame i don't live closer, i could have done it myself.

Wickes do cheaper versions of what you find in MFI ... if you put them together right you'll never know the difference

Buy cheap base units and fancy doors and get them fitted well.

Any kitchen fitters near Bromley looking for work in a few months time?

I did just that - got the units from Homebase and everything else from Wickes and paid a chippie £150/day to fit it all. Saved about £3k on the MFI price for a better kitchen! (Shame i've moved now and have to do it again though......)

Nice kitchen that Burgundy MFI jobby !!! Im not going to knock MFI's quality as nowadays they are all very much the same !! The only pooper with MFI is that they dont offer trade prices to independent fitters !! That way if you like their kitchen, They fit it !!!! NOT GOOD !!

Like said quality not too bad now! They have all the soft closure etc and fridge drawers and even the gloss finish is rather good !! A good comparison is, I fitted a kitchen for a customer short while back made by a brand called Keller. Dutch or something !! What a load of tosh !! Cost them an absolute mint and the finish I assure you was no better than MFI's !! God knows how much of it was wrongly cut too !! (No door handles just lenthgs of alumimium strip which sits behind to of cupboard doors !! All cut wrong!!) Try sending it back to Holland with a quick turnaround !! Pants !!

If you want my advice - Crown kitchen, Franke basin or Corian with basin inset, and Smeg appliances. Oh and Dualit electrical gizmo's everywhere...! Sounds like home ..... :)

Again, shame I also dont live closer! Could have done a fair price !!!
