Today's Ride

Re:

Went for a spin, late morning. Didn't want anything too demanding, so i hit the Flitch Way. Those that don't know it it's NCR 16, or at least part of it. It runs from just outside Great Hallingbury to Braintree. It's a dismantled railway line. Unfortunately it is broken in two at Great Dunmow, and the link between the two parts a bit awkward. All in all, it's a really lovely ride and good for a couple of hours, safe , almost flat spinning. A couple of other NCR's are also accessible close by, if you want to add variations. As it can get busy with other users at certain times of the day.

Saw a well-spoken old boy kicking something off the path, some distance ahead of me.
Turned out it was someone's wallet, and he clearly didn't want to do the right thing. So I picked it up, rode up to him and asked about it, and then took a trip to the local cop shop this afternoon to hand it in.

Some people. I get the covid thing, but I missed the memo telling us to stop being decent people.

I put in about 25 miles. The route of my ride looked like a pair of spectacles on the map. Ground was nice and soft after the rain. Few muddy puddles, but nothing significant.

Breezy, quite strong at times. Sunny, about 20°c. Nice day.

Lived in Great Hallingbury for a year or so after moving from Stansted when i was young. Lived in part of a huge house with a turret and moat, and large tennis courts, that's all i can remember about it really. Oh, me and my brother used to take the owners dogs for walks, one was a Dachshund and the other a Great Dane

Re:

Ironically, I grew up on the edge of the Peak District, near Sheffield. It's probably where I'd be if I hadn't met my current partner.

Re:

Nice shots gents.

With my right calf still recovering, running remains on-hold. So it was a great excuse to get on A'ha yesterday and inspect the "carnage" after super(!) Saturday. Pleased to report that most of the pubs didn't open or had cleaned up well judging by the lack of litter. Even more pleased to report the number of runners and cyclists out.

I've been itching to get out of my local postcode so I popped over to Blackheath and Greenwich, did a few loops up and down the hill then onto the Thames Path heading east. I haven't been on there for a few years and it's great that all the silly diversions have disappeared now most of the new-builds are complete.

A light shower breezed in for a few minutes but overall, whilst it was windy, it was glorious; warm, fresh and just one of those days when it's a joy to be outside. I pootled over to Woolwich then up and over Shooters Hill whilst taking in a few little park and path diversions.

This morning I kept it local but made a load of diversions to test out some new running routes and came across a couple of lakes. One of them (not pictured) is closed due to C-19 but it owned by a local fishing club so fingers crossed I can check that out soon.

Re:

As the easing back to work begins, I'm getting more used to the commute distance again. Added to which it turns out the Mtrax is now quite comfortable, much more than the C16r was anyway.

Took the longer ride in, and another longer ride home.

Rode as far along the dismantled railway, that I followed the other day, as I could today. Tried to picture how different the surrounding area must have been when it was still in use.
Looking at the map, I've actually ridden a couple of later sections in earlier lockdown rides.

Sunny intervals would best describe today's weather. About 14°c morning, 18°c afternoon. Still a breeze, stronger this morning than this afternoon, but pleasant. Threatened rain, but didn't.

Really nice day today, perfect weather for a ride.

Headed to do a longer loop i haven't done in a while, as usual i never happened as i was feeling a bit tired when i first started. I ended up just staying on a trail i know that just ends at a country park. By the time i got there i was feeling a lot better and had added a couple of diversions in along the way. A lap around the park and i headed down a bridleway i have never rode, it just goes to a village and roads, but it was a little gem to ride and only a short downhill stretch of road before i found my way back onto the trails.

Lots of cyclists out on the trails today, most not in the mood to acknowledge a simple hello.

Great ride, and i even stopped to sit in a field for a while to soak up some rays
