New and Ego searches not working????????????

Good luck with that project. I've moved 2 large forums from a small, end-of life platform to Xenforo. Hard work but well worth it from an admin & end user perspective. Should be easier with a mainstream forum like phpBB especially if custom stuff can be replicated. Xenforo have regulars on the support forum who specialise in moving big forums like this. We did a dummy run first on a copy of the site & then moved the live site when we were happy with the process.

Re:

Hi John,

Seems ok now. On my phone and the computer.
My only real bugbear, is the hassle of getting photos on here. As you know, I take a lot, and it would be nice to share some with other retroheads.
On 'that' website, I can just add photos to my posts by going through them. Just a thought
Mike

John the Guv'nor mentioned the desire to move to a new platform so I think it's just a case of being patient. On the xenforo platform I allow my members to upload up to huge 10mb images & they are optimised on the fly to sub 200kb without any loss of screen quality. It saves my less PC savvy members having to do any resizing & means the more social media familiar types get upload ease like what they are used to elsewhere. I'm sure the other mainstream platforms will have similar options built in. With the recent issues with the likes of Photobucket it's a boon to participation. We actually discourage 3rd party hosting due to the risk of losing valuable reference images & run scripts to catch such images & bring them onto the server.

Totally agree that 3rd party posting is a pain for reaserching older posts. These old photos are vital references.
And being able to post higher res new photos more easily would obviously be a boon for future builders/restorers..

Mike - understand you frustrations with the images. Assume by other site you mean facebook ? The impact fb has on this and similar sites is a whole other discussion..

With regards to the new platform xen is the preferred option currently, have run trial migration. However as mentioned previously there is a fair bit of work to complete ahead of this.

Great to hear - it's been a boon for us. I for one appreciate the responsibility & graft involved in the research, preparation, testing & migration & snagging. Especially when it's not the full time job.
