My wife is a primary teacher & regional maths specialist. She recommends Carol Vordermans Maths Factor for home use.

Despite having a mother who was an ex Secondary Maths and Science teacher and regular severe beatings, i was shite at maths at school, bottom of the 5th set  We had a psycotic bully as maths teacher by the name of Robbo Reed. He would probably be doing time these days for his antics. He would regularly beat the crap out of anyone who even looked at him in a ‘funny way’.

I can remember having my usual complete mental block during a maths exam. I could hear his squeeky shoes marching down my isle....he drew closer and suddenly stopped, peering at me....terrified i half looked up. “ I know you can do it boy” he uttered, as his eyes widened. I was filled with absolute terror !! Why did he say that ?, im useless at this. Then a strange thing happened. Suddenly, it was like this dense fog cleared from my mind and I could see it all making sense. He had literally scared ‘the fog’ out of my mind. I came 3rd in the entire year in that maths exam and stayed at that level from then on...a true story. He gave me a wry smile and always treated me exceptionally well after that.

Big thumbs up for Carol V’s website. That should chivvy her along, fingers crossed.
