I am in need of advice from someone with experience of building decking.
My main question is what is the best method for making a solid base ?
I’m looking at either using concrete slabs or cementing 4” x 4” posts into the ground to raise the deck slightly.
Any advice on the pro’s & cons of the methods I suggested or any other suggestions would be great.
Thanks in advance.
Jeff.

use slabs as bases for the posts easier to remove and cheap and quick to put down, concreting in posts or making pads is something I'd use for dwellings not decking.

Make the frame out of 4x2 at least, best to use 6x2, with 400mm centres.

Posts should be 4x4 concreted into ground, one every 1/1.5m2 or so.

I'm a landscaper by trade...

Surely it depends on where it's going?
Soil, rock slopes, flat etc etc

Our garden is full of rocks/boulders and on a significant slope so it's all shuttered and concreted in adjustable foundation stones.

All the wooden ones rot and the latest composites seem to be good and it helps with recycling. I'm about to replace wood with composite, should the weather ever turn for the better.
