So, like... I've got this idea for an app...

Mr. Bleak

Dirt Disciple
Howdy,

Yes! I've got this great idea for an app. :D

I've been in touch with Mr. Zuckerberg and other high profile geeks in the business of app development, but nobody seems to be interested in seeing my brilliant idea that will make millions of bucks and many people happy.

I've wireframed this app, and my background is in design and illustration, but as it's a game and social media combined app; Traffic will be massive!

I cannot see anyone else in the market with a similar idea of what I have designed and I've been researching this for months.

My question is; I can't build it myself and finance is limited. If I tried a Kickstarter jobbie, then I'm afraid someone would nick my idea and is there any way to get this started? :?

Re:

I had a business idea 'stolen' after discussing the details in the pub. Goodness knows how you could protect your idea globally. Very expensive I would imagine.

The easiest way to protect it is not to let anyone have all of it.

This means potentially having a few different coders, different artists and animators etc.

Ultimately, if all you have is an idea and cannot code it yourself you need to either bring someone in and make them sign something legally binding or you need to go to a software house with a protected design - however, in games, this will be nearly impossible as the ip you are protecting has to be written in a really specific way which means it's really easy for a developer to change something simple.

The easiest way to explain it is 'flappy bird' go on the app store / play store and see how many other games that are essentially identical there are.

Re:

UK Gov is a good place to start regarding protecting your work:

https://www.gov.uk/browse/business/inte ... l-property

https://www.gov.uk/patent-your-invention

https://www.gov.uk/intellectual-property-an-overview

https://www.gov.uk/intellectual-propert ... l-property

Don't discuss your ideas with anyone until you have taken sound advice from an "expert" regarding copyright and protection of intellectual property and in a position ready for production and using the skills and services of others.

Thanks to all of the above ;)

Alas, I've tried all of the above.

I know about protecting my work, but as soon as I go to an App Developer, they want £5k upwards before they will even sniff at my idea!

Of course, I am hoping some geek in a bedroom, or different coders, artists and animators etc. would write the code for it and we all share in the profits, but just getting anyone interested in it, is hard/awkward enough.

Any more ideas welcome...

Re:

Do you use a Mac or PC?

There is software out there for animating your art, making games/apps and publishing online content, so you may not need to raise thousands to spend on specialists. DIY is entirely possible.

I use a Mac, but this idea I've got is more Facebook size, so DIY ain't possible I'm afraid.

I'm afraid this needs proper coding specialists. :|

As soon as it's done, it'll be copied anyway. No matter what UK things you put on it, it's a much bigger world out there.

So what the idea, need details ;-)

Like others have said, and you already know, you need to bring someone in. Your could approach a university, students etc as most would gladly help. Or, if it is such a promising idea then it would be easy enough to secure funding to pay for a quality programer, and ultimately a higher return.

What is the idea by the way :?: :)

Aha! ;)

It's a game and social media combined app.

That's all I can say I'm afraid, cos some bugger will pinch it!
