Jumble Fever

one-eyed_jim

Old School Grand Master
Went to the cycle jumble yesterday with my buddy Swann (as in "du côté de chez Swann") to help him find parts for his new fixie build. There were one or two little treasures I couldn't resist.

High technology it ain't - this is hardcore! A Huret Route Touriste from 1946.

Lovin those lamps, always had an idea about modernising one with some fangango led in it.

You jammy git! Mavic Cranks!
Well you know how it goes - you wait ages for a pair, then fifteen come along all at once...

I was planning to be very strict with myself and only buy certain things if they showed up - Mavic wishbone shifters and 841 mech, TA compact chainrings, Ritchey cranks. As it turned out I blew the budget on stuff I covet but can't use. Plus ça change...

My favourites from the haul are that 24t Mavic chainring, A nice ITM TT handlebar that went home with Swann, a pair of useful Athena bottom brackets, the bells (one goes "dring dring" the other goes "ping pong") and the new-in-box TONER-FLEX. I'll scan and upload the instruction leaflet for that when I get a minute.

Yeah, I've got plans along the same lines. I'm rebuilding an old Post Office bike for a friend here and the plan is dynamo driven LED lights front and rear in those aerodynamic 1950s retro-futurist lamp housings. LeFol Martelé mudguards, bien sûr.

The French really had it figured out in the forties and fifties - everything was light, beautiful, shiny, futuristic, aerodynamic aluminium, while the British were still messing around with chromed steel.

When my lousy cameraphone decides to start working again I'll upload some more lamps to drool over - big Luxor and Radios cyclomoteur lamps that look like something out of Flash Gordon!

I saw that and loved it. Mavic stuff looks so nice. The cranks always remind me of Big Mig churning the things in the TT to another tour victory.
