 Post subject: How to shave a spider

Well RockiMtn needed to modify this spider to fit his AC cranks. I've got access to a lathe and am always up for a challenge so thought I'd give it a go. The spider has 5-fold symmetry and the lathe chuck has 6-fold symmetry. So this was my solution.

Make a custom jig to hold the spider:

got these back yesterday and they are PERFECT!!! :D

now my AC cranks have three spyder options… standard 5-bolt, compact 5-bolt, and modern 4-bolt! 8)

Until i touched a moving one. just not the same now :lol:

Smashing bit of work :D did you have any problems with the chain line or was that unaffected ?
