After nearly 12 months of owning my King Kahuna I finally got around to pulling the wrong bits off and putting it back together with more acceptable parts over Easter.

Frame: 1997 Kona King Kahuna 20" (the decals are a bit scratched and cracked but they're original)
Fork: 1997 Marzocchi Z1 Bomber in Tangerine Dream
Headset: Chris King gold
Stem: Race Face SyStem in Yellow
Handlebar: Easton CT2 carbon riser
Grips: Bontrager (came with the bike)
Brakes: M951 XTR (should be M950 but had trouble finding a good set so these will do).
Brake/Shift Levers: M951 XTR 8 Speed STI units (again should be M950 but finding them was hard)
Front Derailleur: XTR M950
Rear Derailleur: XTR M952 Medium cage
Cassette: M950 8 Speed 12-32
Chain: Sachs
Cranks: Race Face Turbines 180mm in yellow
Chainrings: Race Face 44/32/22
Bottom Bracket: Race Face(?)
Pedals: none at the moment (those on there were to allow riding around the garden)
Quick Releases: Ringle Ti Twisters Green
Rims: Mavic 517 ceramics although the surface is gone on the rear
Hubs: Chris King classic hubs Black
Spokes: DT Swiss Ti gold
Tyres: Continental Vapor
Saddle: WTB
Seatpost: Easton CT2 Carbon
Weight: ?

History: From the build of the bike when I got it last year and conversations with the previous owner I'm led to believe that it was built up as a frame sometime in early 98 as apart from the rear derailleur all the parts it came with dated from then. There was an obvious yellow theme already on the bike with the stickers, cranks, stem seat edges and spokes which seemed to work so those parts have remained. Finding an original Z1 with the a long enough steerer for the 6" head tube took a while but I found one in the end and it works very well with the rest of the bike.

Sorry about the poor photo - too much sun over here ;), I'll post a better shot this evening (my time).

Kona have always been on my fav bikes list. And that is a perfect example of why.

Superb!

Great use of Bomber Z1s (my fave retro fork) :!:

With the Bombers and a riser it must be a nice comfy ride.

Top marks.

P.S; More pics please!

I hadn't noticed until you mentioned them - nice touch.
