1988 Fisher Montare

Repack Rider

Senior Retro Guru
I saw this '88 Montare in a garage with the tyres rotting off, so I offered the owner $50 for it. I realized from the speed of his acceptance that he was ready to pay me to haul it away. It looked like it had been stored a lot longer than it had been ridden.

I spent another $110 on tyres, cables and whatnot, and now it is perfectly suitable as a town bike for someone a foot shorter than I am. From a collector's standpoint it isn't valuable, with the cheap Fisher frame, the universally derided BioPace chainset, and the Roller-Cam Sport (AKA "Mud Shelf") brake.

I plan to give it to a friend who fits it and who needs a bike more than I need this one.

What are the chances of finding a Montare too small? Most that come up (on the bay at least) are huge!

Looks earlier than 88' to me?? Judging this on my very recently sold 87' Montare. IIRC the 88' Monatare was yellow, but maybe that was just the Monatare XT :?
I think its lovely, btw :D
