Ritchey - Experts, Geeks and Ritchey-riding Greeks required!

My first Ritchey arrived from across the pond today... :) Yet to discover exactly what it was/is - was described as possibly an 'Ultra' (which I'm sure it isn't).

Serial is 7A366 - size is 23" - I only bought a frame and fork, so don't use the stuff I've hastily bolted on this evening as clues!

Any thoughts Ritchey fans??

Mr K

PS. Can't wait to take Max on now... :)

You'd better break out the T-cut and get polishing then Fella

sorry, can't help with ID....before my time

He'll laugh when he reads that! I meant pedalling on the hill (or in the sea - as he has been known to do with his Rich Tea) - I know my place when it comes to building (Max puts me there every time... ;) )!

Very nice.. :)

To Help .. Although not 100% fella, but think you might have a 87 ascent there, just the top cable routing has thrown me off track slightly .. :) .. can you post some better pics.. :)

not an expert, though i would like to be...

89/90 Ascent Comp from what I've looked up ;)
though the decal could make it an ultra, since I'm not sure the japan made frames had that handcrafted by ritchey mountain bikes decal on them

is the seatpost cluster fillet brazed and the rest of the frame TIG?

congrats on the pick up. I've been reading up as much as I can on old Ritcheys as I've been looking harder lately (always wanted one, fillet brazed).

I picked one up this past week as well...just waiting for it to arrive, trying to stay cool while it does

GE - bb area looks TIg to my untrained eye. Using MOMBAT we'd arrived at the 1989 Ascent Comp (EDIT - my error) - http://www.mombat.org/Ritchey_Specs.htm

I share your excitement - haven't wanted a box of $150 worth of old metal to arrive so much in a long time! It's not ever going to be a stellar example in my hands (I just want to ride it!) - I'm going to keep the 'patina', maybe add a couple of decals. Starting with parts that lay around and see where we go from there.

I might aim for this build in time - http://www.westhill.com/ritcheybikes/

There's a curious build over in Oslo - http://www.flickr.com/photos/98398332@N ... 004280595/ (also on that black hole of a forum over the pond)

Really don't think it's a Timber Comp, due to the serial number and frame construction...I see many TIG welds.

I believe the Timber Comp was fully Fillet Brazed and did not have an "A" in the serial number.

But at $150, it was still a good price for the Japanese built Ritchey or US built tig welded frame, like the Ultra.

Let's see if we can lure any true experts to post...

perhaps I have to use one of their pics in my avatar again ;)

I read the title as Experts and Greeks. I was curious to see why a Greek would be needed, then I re-read they title

I am rather simple.

I'm part greek; that's why I posted ;)

Despite it being a later frame - I'm going with older equipment than catalogue spec, mainly because it's sport for the elite to trash the build  , but also because it's what I have lying around and I want an earlier-style riding experience than XT II gives.
