Old School Hero
...well it's sorta retro...and sorta not. But it's all hardcore.

Just got finished today, more pics tomorrow after I get some splatter on it.

Nice ride Tam

Rode it up the Old Railroad Grade on Tam today - it's well splattered ;) climbed as well as any hardtail, descends even better and the brakes my god the brakes...

Alan holding the beast, his Millennium Flyer (41 Schwinn DX with Nexus-8 in back) was the inspiration for this build and this bke features his paintwork as well.

I have some crap phone pics from today's ride, may post them later but man 1.3MP just doesn't cut the mustard.

FYI here are the specs:
1938 Schwinn "Rex" autocycle frame, custom paint by Alan Bonds of original Repack fame www.clunkers.net
Marzocchi X-Fly 80mm with 1" steerer.
Chris King 1" BMX headset - fit the pre war head tube with no mods, I can put a schwinn setup on anytime.
Salsa stem, Pro Taper moto bars, WTB lock on Magura style grips, Avid levers.
Brooks B72 saddle with reinforced Schwinn post and Campy quick release binder - for the old flavor.
Avid BB7 with 8" rotor up front, bolted to White Industries M16 hub.
Nexus-8 premium in back with 90mm mondo finned roller brake.
Polished Sun Rhyno Lites with WTB Nano Raptors.
19-38 sprockets...get it?
White Industries cranks and front sprocket on YST adjustable BB.

A couple pics from last weekend on Mount Tam - sure to have been the oldest frame on the hill :D passed a few folks on the way down, that was good for some looks.

Love it!
When that frame was made cars didn't even have disc brakes!
Looks like lots of fun.[/i]
