Here we go. Started in earnest.

Frame (off baj), has been acid dipped, blasted, chainsuck repaired and two packed in Yamaha R1 blue. (Including the v-brake studs!!

 ).

Decals ordered off gil.

Waiting for XTR headset from Germany, but most of the rest is ready for the build.

I'll update as she goes.

I like the colour. I've got quite a few photos of 1997 Kilaueas and I'm not sure they didn't use two different shades of blue during the year, one of which was a dark purple/blue and the other was a brighter blue, not purple, quite similar to the colour you've used. And your frame seems to have been the bright blue colour before as well.

I know there are differences in camera settings, light levels etc that could explain it, but my photos basically fall into two distinct cases - one like the first of these two bikes which is very much the same purple colour as mine, the other like the second photos which is blue and looks quite like your new colour.

Anthony,

She was definitely originally the brighter of those two.

I chose the Yamaha R1 colour, as it was similar, but a little more vibrant. I reckon it'll work well with original decals.

I also chose a white undercoat, as opposed to the original black. This gives a translucent appearance.

Baj,

Paint was done by a mate of mine with access to a sprayshop and a big oven.

Can't give details as the shop and oven belong to his boss.

Getting there.

Triple Butted P2s on, with NOS XTR headset.

Avid Arch Rivals.

XT Shifters/XTR Levers.

Kona bar (from my old 1998 Kila).

XT Chainset (?) not sure how that looks.

XT Rear Mech

221 wheels on XT parallax hubs.

USE post Flite Ti ready. Though the shim from my 99 Explosif doesn't want to fit!!
