Here's some pics of my Univega Alpina 506 (not sure of the date approx 92-95). Single speed and built up very cheaply from the bits box.

I've always fancied trying singlespeed, and when I got this frame I thought it was an ideal candidate. I've not gone the whole hog yet, using rear mech as a tensioner and chainring from a 8 speed set and old cassette spacers to pack out the ring. It works well for now and was relatively easy to do. Hardest part was getting some washers to space out the chainring, I've ended up with some fairly wide ones and filing them down so that the chain doesn't interfere.

Anyway, here it is.........

Thats the way singlespeed is supposed to be done. Old bits cobbled together as a cheap hack. However i started that way and its a slippery slope......
Should be interesting on the Univega as the frames were a bit flexy from memory

These frames are keepers. I had a '96 Univega 502 made from the same stuff: bi-oval racelite 4130. 19" was too big for me so I passed it on. They had triple bottle bosses 'n' all so make a quality utility machine.
