A Klunker Turns Up

A bicyclist surfing the web came across my website and sent me the following photos of a bike he purchased while in college in California around 1980. He told me enough about the original owner for me to put a name to him, a friend from those times who worked in a bike shop in Santa Barbara.

It's an original Marin County "klunker" from about 1979, and I wish the photos were better.

Awesome, would love to build one one day. Hows yours coming along DrS

Lovely style of bike. I like to see them with patina.

I also like to see them restored as well. :D

Original owner of this bike was a fellow by the name of Jay Carney. When I met him in 1980 at the Reseda to the Sea race, he had the most impressive dreadlocks I had seen up to that point, well past his waist. A few years later he took a world tour and decided that natty dread was not the image he needed, so he cut them off. Not sure, but I think Jay was one of the fortunate few to obtain a Trailmaster. I have no idea where he is now.

Lush

Been dreaming of building one of these for some years, too many other projects keep getting in the way....just going to have a look on eBay
