I was lucky enough to buy this Yeti FRO a few weeks ago. It's a 1986 model and number 385, making it one of the first 100 made in their original location in Malibu, California.

It has all the desirable features of the early FROs including the round top tube, Simplex drops, and the front derailleur cable routing that terminates at the chainstay bridge.

The build consists of period-correct M730 except for the King no logo BMX headset and rare early IRD post (in the impossible to find 26.6mm size). All the correct original stepped ferrules in all the right places. The stem is a recent FTW made piece, exactly like the old ones he made for Yeti. The fork is a later Answer AccuTrax with cut drops - would love to find an AccuTrax with Campagnolo dropouts! I need to replace the grips.

No and certainly not the 1992 chainrings either! I suppose the all new 6spd M730 could have appeared in 1986 for the 1987 model year.

Top would have been XT Deerhead in black or silver

I should have clarified, it is borderline 1986/1987 so went with M730.
