The frame will be suspension corrected so you might want to find a longer fork...or you might just choose to look at the pretty matching one. :)

Cool, just looked "short" in terms of tyre to crown clearance.

Right, Ive actually finished this now, perhaps with the exception of a longer stem (and the Ti version of that saddle). The aim was strong, light AND cheap, and I think I got there. Its not cost me much (considering the spec), its steel with no silly light components, and its pretty darn light (again, taking into account its 24 speed, steel and with sus forks). Its also probably in the wrong forum now. Never mind.

I aimed for good 'ole American built components, so White Industries, Salsa, Control Tech, White Bros and Yeti stuff, plus full M950 groupset.

Frame: 98 Bontrager Privateer 'S' (small)

Fork: White Bros SC72 (Englund air internals)

Headset: Ringle Slamma Jamma
Stem: Control Tech
Handlebar: Yeti ARC F1 Carbon
Grips: Yeti speed

Brakes: XTR M950
Brake Cables: Nokon
Brake Levers: XTR M950

Shifters: Gripshift SRT 800 X-Ray Mk2
Front Derailleur: XTR M950
Rear Derailleur: XTR M950
Derailleur Cables: Nokon
Cassette: XTR M950
Chain: KMC 8 speed
Cranks: XTR M950
Chainrings: XTR M950
Bottom Bracket: XTR M950
Pedals: Crank Bros Candy

Hub Skewers: Salsa flip-offs
Rims: Mavic 217 SUP
Hubs: White Industries Ti
Tyres: Specialized 'Extreme' Team Control/Master

Saddle: Bontrager C30
Seatpost: Control Tech
Seatpost Binder: Salsa

Extras: Ringle H20 cage; Bontrager chainsuck device; Bontrager seatpost clamp protector (a piece of inner tube); "downhill bikes dont make you cool" sticker; Race Face 'Use the Force' top cap; Onza porcupine alloy thingymajig.
