Any love for my one owner 1993 Marin Palisades Trail?

Hi,
My first post!
I’m not a big cyclist and haven’t really ridden in 5-10 years.
But i’ve just resurrected my ‘93 Palisades Trail that I bought when I was 15. This was my pride and joy and my first proper bike, I researched the arse out of this and loved the new Shimano groupset features that came in around 93 such as rapid fire shifters, the Marin lite weight saving features and the purple anodised paint.
She’s had a fair amount of use and shows some wear but feels suitably retro to me!
I took her out for a short blast on Sunday and to me feels really good, fast, nimble, with very direct steering. The geometry felt perfect and the gears still indexed (I only left the saddle once, even on uphills).
All in all very impressed and am now looking at other retro Marins to satisfy my itch!
Hope this link works:

Yes buddy, Marin's are for me is what my teens and 20's were about. Buying them, riding them and upgrading them. When I wasn't doing that I was lusting after what I couldn't afford in the latest catalog. You don't t get nowadays, as everything is online. Pfff. I've still got most off the catalogs to this day

Re:

Just picked up a 16” version off e bay for £25 after a tip off on here, even has a girl in flex stem, probably worth the 25 alone!
Dying to get out on it but the rear shifter is shafted so do you know what series it is or number can’t seem to find it on mine.

Also is it cassette or screw on freewheel?

Might be easier to convert to 8 speech than find a 7 speed shifter

Thanks

Re: 7 speed Shifter

To the OP... Nice Marin save chief, keep 'em aliiiivvvve!

Fao. Rugbyleaugebiker...

Here's a new Stx 7 speed shifter - brake lever combo, new old stock...

If you look around the bay for a bit, you'll find lots of used shimano 7x3 speed shifters popping up for less money, even for a pair.

It all depends on the hub/what year your Marin is, whether an 8 speed will just drop on, maybe not until about 1996 STX MC something 8 speed specific.

It doesn't have to match like for like, i.e. 7 speed LX will shift 7 speed stx mechs, etc. Just get a good used replacement, swapped like for like and keep another old Marin original and riding.

My Palisades in 1994 I think had the STX SE kit, but I could be wrong, a few knocks to the grey matter since then.

Ah great info guys!
I just picked up another from eBay “spares repair” but seems ok bar a few bits and the decals are worn. I only wanted the purple pedals, Marin seat and the onza bar ends all for £20 :)
Oh and it has the later “Marin lite” Tyres, mine came with Ritchey Megabite...

I might turn this one into a doer upper and add some trick bits? Not sure...
If I’m lucky I might find a suitable set of shocks.... took mine on a trail and it nearly shook me to pieces! Minimum is the flex stem :)
Looking forward to getting it all in bits and buying some new parts,

Thanks dude, snapped that shifter up and now I'm back with the bug, sold 3 bikes and two frames in the past 12 months. Can't keep away. Hopefully I can just keep this one and look after it.

Does anybody know a cure for rusty spokes? I think the wheels are original so would be good to keep them
