Yet another enters the stable having promised to trim the heard.

This one hung around on ebay for a few weeks before a wine fueled bid won it for me. A trip to Haydock later and I'm pleased to say it's in pretty decent shape.

In my mind the classic Clockwork is orange/white fade with either 89/91 decals or 92/3 where as the classic Prestige is black with large font orange decals, like this. I was especially drawn to it because of the great many other Orange logo's plastered over the forks, stays etc. :D

Looked faded in the ad but it's not too bad and should t-cut up well. The bloke I got it from said he'd had it from new, or nearly new so reckoned the parts were original. It's a real mix of XT, DX and a little Suntour. The rear rim's been replaced which is a shame but everything else seems serviceable.

It's a big lad at 21" so should fit me for a change! Not exactly sure of the build direction but leaning towards some Suntour I have in stock as included is a silver headset, crankset, canti's etc so would look well with the aluminium Orange stem I have matched against the black frame. That would leave my XT collection for my mint Clockwork frame as the darker parts will suit that. We'll see.

Oh, and a Bonty/Titec retro titanium bar was a bonus!

Updates to follow.

The frame and forks should clean up well Ed. Decals on it look good to great, certainly intact. Think youve scored a good one mate. Look forward to seeing what you do with it. But the main thing is the frame and forks look great and decals are original!
Very similar to the black 89 clockwork you sold me...

Re:

That should scrub up nicely, looming forward to progress on this wine fuelled rescue :)

Re:

Thanks all. :D

OX, that’s the Stalk we spoke about!

Calum, it’s not a patch on your Clockwork but still worth some love.

Now, Suntour or XT? Should we go with silver parts?

Ah cool I didn't think you'd have it yet. Nice find really, still looks massive maybe really this is what my 92 Clockwork 21" will look like on wheels...
Watching with interest.

Re:

Bit of an update. Having stripped it right down and cleaned up the frame, which came up really well, and finding the drive side crank arm was stuck I promptly did nothing else to it. I have been having a bit of a clear out so decided to move this on due to lack of use.

As you see it here is the build I did to sell. All the serviceable parts that came with it along with a Mavic 231CD rear wheel I had spare, Rolls saddle and a few other parts. Thing is, once I put the amber walls on and got it ready it started to grow on me again. I had a quick spin and it's bang on my size so I've decided to keep it and do a higher standard build. I'm thinking XT with the Hope wheels I have. Not sure if I should use the polished aluminium Orange stem I have or a Stalk? We'll see.

Right, off to the garage to have a tinker! :D

Re:

I'll say it again, that is nice, the tyres make a real difference. I picked up a tatty 93 prestige a few months ago & it's pretty much all I've been riding!
