Happy New Year
Let's start the year with this puzzler.
Looking for some input from the kona fans and experts on here.
Was thinking of building this up. but then started looking closer at it.
First, is it a kona? Second, if so, is it an Explosif?
U-brake rear puts it pre 1990. Serial number starts with `T' then series of numbers.
I will get the number soon. Frame isn't in may possession at the moment.
Any help is appreciated. If you don't think it's a Kona, what might it be?
Discuss. :)

Im sure the pre '90 explosif/kona's have the seat bolt behind the post. My '90 explosif has it in front, and im sure neither have a curved top of seat tube, just cut straight across if that makes sense!?

Re:

Makes perfect sense. Noticed these as well.
Part of the reasons i'm here asking.

I was just sent this link. Fuel for the fire.
Interested if anyone involved in that thread
has any pictures of the frame in question.
Auction link is long dead.

From memory that is an explosif, there have also been a few 'what is this' due to the slightly different style of Kona and the noodle tube.

Here's the one missing from teh post you linked to (OP pictures)
images

Of course most you see have the canti brakes not the U brakes.

EDIT I say explosif due to the tubing, the others would not be like that :)

Re:

Another picture FC posted previously.
Thanks FC.
Interesting that this one is yellow as is mine.
With the addition of the red fade. Post clamp location,
curved top of tube and u-brake all the same.
Same tubing decal in same location.
Case closed. We in agreement?

Now, i was going to just toss bin bits on it as is.
Is it special enough to deserve better?
Paint? Decals?
Or leave all it's battle scars and make a daily rider of it?
Certainly would be cheaper.

Happy new year Roy :)

I reckon a late 89/early 90 Explosif. Somewhere around the crossover point between the two years.
