more of a interest than bucket list bike but cheap enough and all the parks can be moved onto a pace........when ben sells me his rc200 :xmas-wink:

found on ebay, presumed it was a large, but alas its a medium.....400mm seatpost then haha

pretty rough but not too gone so diet coke, kitchen foil and classic rock on the radio enabled a nice patina and original decals to stay put

no shock, um'd and ar'd about a nice one from ishaw but the costs meant it'd be an expensive "interest" so an ebay one with tough spring and 10mm longer for my fat arse has been fitted.

mainly xt build, mechs, shifters, cranks and v brakes, lx/concept wheels with irc tyres when i find deep valve tubes and some bits kicking around. only had to buy frame, shock, clamp, post and fork crown shim.....i think

any ways, heres some pics, hoping to have it all finished tomorrow and if the weathers kind, ride on saturday

Re:

Y'know, the more I see these, the more I like them.

Looking a little bit forward to see how this turns out....

Re:

Yeah man!

cool in their own way these ones. you dont have to spend too much to get a usable bike going. Had around 250-300 lb in the strata shock.
But, i found that selecting the right parts made all the difference, aesthetically anyway.
These either look mean and trail ready or a mash up of...well....scrap heap challenge. :)

Done some research on the original strata shock and the eye to eye was/is " 7 7/8 eye too eye, 2.5 in stroke"

this one came out ok....big comfy boat really, seen better though!

Re: fugly duckling orange x1

Cleaned up well! Good excuse to bedeck it with some care-worn examples of the various aesthetically gopping products of the British mtb industry (Pace fork*, X-Lite finishing kit, Crud Catcher, DCD etc) ;)

*Although per the downtube sticker a Judy would be a safe option

Re:

I'm not the biggest fan of Orange, well unless it's a black Prestige with a UK parts build etc... but I really do like the lines of the X1. It's going to be a nice bike by the looks of it.
That medium does look like a large to me too.

I have my own project URT in the pipeline, although it's still sat in the States at the minute.

Now get on and finish.

ps I so hope you end up with that special frame on fb.. and please remember me if you ever move it on.

al. ;)

Re: fugly duckling orange x1

Looking good and interesting. That blox rhox might be a bit stiff for this frame though....

Re: fugly duckling orange x1

I would try to fit a rather modern Fox Rp23 or similar dampener. It really improved the riding on my two URT-bikes. Those being the Mantra and the Ibis. I was able to get them rather cheap and did the service by myself. Both came out around 100Euro including spare parts.
In have to say thou, that servicing those dampeners is quite a learning curve...

I think the bolx rhox is also a nod towards the Chemical Brothers
and perhaps what Orange were on when they dreamed up (hallucinated) the X1

Welcome to the X1 club, even if you are only planning on a brief visit rather than stopping.
