Now the Stumpy Comp is finished and up for sale i can switch my attention to this again.

I've decided to move the Explosif to its own build thread,i feel the overhauling splatter paint thread has ran it's course now plus i've already done a 90 Explosif on there.

So where am i at so far, firstly i resprayed the crown black because the previous owner had taking the paint off for some reason. After that i've been having some fun splatting paint onto the crown and matching the colours :) The blue is a little bit to dark so maybe i might lighten the paint a bit and go over it but i'm happy with the pink,a bit of trial and error with red mixed into the pink for that and it was a good match. Other bits for the frame i want some replacement seatube decals and somewhere i have a replacement Tange Prestige decal it's just a matter of finding it

Component wise,i've never done a build using Deore XT M-737 parts so i might go down that route, maybe XT V brakes aswell.
Also i wouldn't mind using carbon fibre bars and seatpost, bars seem to be easy enough to find but finding a 26.8mm seatpost is proving to be tricky.

Looking forward to building this :D

Re:

My all time favourite Kona. Especially with the Track 2 forks. Looking forward to seeing this built.

You're getting pretty good with the splatters and colour matching mate :)

Ooh, this looks nice. Is this a U-brake or canti/v frame?

It's a canti/v frame apart from the fire mountain which kept the u-brake the rest of the range went to cantilevers, shame coz this would look great with a XT U-brake.

Re:

Quick update on the Explosif. Got the XT V brakes on the bike as well as some new gripshifts not sure if those will stay just yet though.
Specialized ST 2 chainset or maybe it's the touring version what they used on the Team Stumpjumpers, can never tell between them because they look the same to me
I love the look of them but maybe i might take them off and sell them to fund finding some Deore XT M737 ones to fit in with the groupset i'm going with.

I've used the nos Avocet saddle what was on my 89 Explosif complete with the scuff mark :x  If i can upload the photo you'll see how it happened,it was one of those nooooo moments
NOS XT seatclamp as well as a new EX Systems seatpost, always liked the look of those posts.

Those wheels are maybe going on maybe not, there's some wheels i've spotted which i think would go well on the bike.

And lastly the velocity stem, started splatting it for a laugh to see if it would match up and i quite like it. I left the otherside blank for reference and i can't quite make up my mind what to do,what do you think should i keep splatting or respray it :D

Re:

This was how the new Avocet saddle got scuffed,i was gutted when this happened stupid gust of wind
Exactly as i pressed the button the bike started to fall over, the photo caught it just before the saddle hit the deck and i was trying to catch it.
Definitely a nooooo moment

Ah, didnt know you had this thread

Definatly a nooo moment, had it happen a few times and just end up watching it through the camera instead of dropping the camera and catching the bike

And after seeing the two halfs of stem, i would go with splatter, you have managed to get it to look like it was originally like that
