Tech XTC Pro

Hi,
picked this one up last week in western Austria (bought one Bianchi and got this and a Simplon for free), nothing special but an interesting find as I didn't even know the existence of this brand. turns out little info is available though viewtopic.php?f=1&t=92037

probably one of the last models, 1996? STX-RC and V-brakes are a hint. didn't weigh it but feels quite light, lighter than for example a 1996 Marin Palisades Trail with similar tubing and specs I have around. Would be interested if someone has similar models or can dig out more info on this late range of Tech bikes. decals match this one viewtopic.php?t=135150#p2130281

kinda liking the colour and planning a good clean and a moderate touch up for around town, maybe leave the saddle with grey tyres and grips... :facepalm:

As an update I decided to spend some time with this Tech and make it my new short-range commuter - but before came the guesswork: as my first proper bike in 1995 was a STX-RC equipped Marin I always thought STX-RC equals 7-speed and counting seven sprockets on the Tech I was set to go. Not so fast... whatever I did I couldn't adjust the RD, ok, turning the low limit screw all the way in prevented the chain from going over the largest cog but still something wasn't right with the whole setup. You guessed it - a closer look revealed the RD to be not really 7-speed but a 1997 8-speed STX-RC version. For whatever reason the previous owner had installed a 7-speed rear hub and cassette with washers on the axle to fit the 135mm dropouts :shock:
After consolidating google and my parts bin the solution was near. Had a 9-speed wheelset with corresponding Deore shifters, took a long afternoon and went from 7 to 9 including new cables, brake pads and contact points. Only thing I had to buy was the 9-speed chain.
Turns out it's the perfect size for me and rides and shifts like a charm!
The only problem might be that i can't bring myself to leave it exposed to the elements at the train station now that I took care of it
