An assortment of mid-90s Marins

I seem to have collected a few mid-90s Marins over the last couple of years, thought I would share. All cheap as chips, about 150 quid in total.

1. 1995 Muirwoods, 15.5". Bought for my wife but she didn't get on with it so now has been sold. Was in pretty much unused condition but I swapped out the dodgy Alivio cranks that were recalled bitd for some STX ones.

2. 1995 Team Marin, 19". Original except for wheels, grips and seat. Have some cheapo wheels in place at the moment while I find something more suitable. Nice and light, shifters need an overhaul. Used quite a lot.

3. 1994 Bear Valley Special Edition, 19". Original excluding seat and grips. Full STX SE group set in well used but pretty good condition. Road cruising duties, maybe to be set up as a tourer for next summer.

4. 1995 Eldridge Grade, 15.5". Bought for the 8-speed LX group, now built up for a friend with the 7-speed LX parts from a 1994 EG and some mismatch wheels (Campag and Ritchey rims on LX hubs). A bit tatty but functioning perfectly.

5. 1994 Eldridge Grade, 15.5". Stripped for the parts that went on the 1995 EG above. Need to see if the fork can be rescued. Very tatty frame, some pretty deep gouges. May be made into a big BMX type thing.

6. 1990 Palisades Trail, 17.5". Has 1997 Alivio/Acera X shifters, cranks and mechs, but original wheels and brakes. Threading on forks is a bit knackered, paint pretty bad too. Pub/shopping bike and adds some much needed colour to the collection!

Crikey, nice stash :) Never seen a Pallisades in that colour - is it NZ specific?
Do you ride non Marins from time to time? ( Not that Marins aren't fantastic - my favourite bike is a Marin...)

This is the alternative/non-UK/USA colour. Not sure exactly of the location differences for the different colours, but the UK was the light grey Zolatone paint with fluoro yellow forks. You do see more of the alternative colour early 90s Marins here in NZ though.

I also have a couple of local (NZ/Oz) 1990 e-stays which I must finish off, modern hardtail and a couple of road bikes too. Tend to ride the modern one more and more recently.

Re:

Heading for double figures, eh?

A few different sizes here - do you ride them all?

That orange Palisades looks well, you don't see many that colour. :D

I actually have only 4 of the above 6 left now - the Muirwoods was sold and the 1995 EG donated to a friend.

Re sizes: the small Muirwoods I originally bought for my wife and the 2 small EGs for parts. I bought the TM, BVSE and PT for riding myself - I am 6' and would actually prefer the TM to be a 17.5' for offroad. The BVSE I ride on the road and the position is close to my road bikes so is fine.

The PT is just a pub bike atm, but it is in bit of a state - it looks much better in the photo than in real life. The paint is very bad, some rust coming through and the threads on the forks are knackered beyond repair. I have another, similar fork which is black and I am considering whether to spend the money on restoring the whole bike or not.

Re:

If I restore the Palisades I will try to match the original colours, the orange is pretty bright, maybe not quite fluoro and the purple is, well, purple.

Re:

I get nostalgic when I see those mid 90's Marin bikes. I worked as a mechanic from 94-96 and have both sold and mounted all of those bikes.

Marin bikes back then were light weight, usually well equipped and had good design.

Great to see that they are still out there and are well taken care of.

Re: year made

Can anyone tell what year made is this marin indian fire trail...
