1983 Ritchey MountainBikes Faux Lug Competition

Excited to share our next museum project: a rare fully original 83 Faux Lug Ritchey Comp.

We purchased this bike from OG owner, Tom Ritchey's neighbor. In 1982 he painted Tom's house in trade for a bike. In 1983 Tom delivered this bike to him exactly like you see it here.

We will be cleaning this bike up and keeping as much of the original bits on it as possible.

Exactly.... keep every nut and bolt with the bike. Will be replacing the grips and some better rubber and then detailing it to preserve the patina. Every part on this bike including the grips are original to the bike. We plan on keeping that integrity in place.

Decadence

TR used that style of clamp on bar on his higher end mountain bikes from the era. Think of it as an early threadless bar/stem.

The faux lugs were for beauty.

This was as good as it got from TR in 1983. I would argue the prettiest Ritchey frame ever made.

Thank you to Vintage Mountain Bike Workshop for bringing our '83 Faux Lug Ritchey back to showroom condition and preserving every single component original to the bike. The only parts swapped out during this restoration was an NOS pair of Grab On Grips thanks to First Flight Bikes and one NOS set of brake pads.

I will be posting some side by side comparison shots to really showcase what a little (or lot) of elbow grease can accomplish.
