I just got the modified pace stem back from Dave Yates.

Dave changed it from 150/0 rise to 120/20 rise.

Before when it was unrideable

Things still to do:
Shorten front brake hose
Change rear brake lever to two finger blade
Thinking about changing the bars (something wider)
Was going to change the purple skewers, but might leave them
Might aslo change the headset to a shimano 105

Here's a few photo's of the bike.

The bike weights 25.3lb with Ground Control S tires (not those modern ones)

Super nice.

Looks like new - are the decals original?

Great work with the stem - reminds me that I need to finish my Dave Yates...just need the cranks and I'm ready.

That's beautiful, a real piece of British mountain biking history, hats off to you sir.

Thanks for the comments.

Yep the paint\decals are original.

I was running the bike with modern components, but when I bought a full susser, it became a retro project.

I’d forgotten what a joy it is to ride; only complaint is the width of the bars, so narrow (forgotten what it’s like as well).

The bars are RC130's 545mm wide, BITD could you get wider bars?

And I was about to say please fit some period rubber with skinwalls!

Lovely work Toons. You gotta be happy with that :D

With Retro rubber.

TBH wished I used them; those 1.8 XC Pros were tosh in the mud.

Just need to sort the maguras out, would like wider bars, but other than that very happy.

545mm = 21.5 inches

I think RC30's were 22" uncut which is 560mm. Same as Bontrager Ti and Ritchey Pro of the period

Widest bars at the time were 23" = 585mm. Think Answer Hyperlites. You can now get wider ones from Titec and Salsa but they are not period correct...

I've got some 19-1/2" wide RC130's which are incredaibly scary to hold... I've never put them on a bike but they are there for when I want to scare myself stupid in the woods.
