1991 Diamond Back Axis Team

Stipen2317

Dirt Disciple
Hello there! I would like to share my most recent find.
It took a while but finally it showed up on our local classifieds. It's in fairly good condition (fair price too), few paint chips and scratches here and there from storage, but nothing major.

I tested it this afternoon, it rides really great. The handlebar length is bit short (22") compared to my '91 team Marin (24"). I'm not sure if this is a standard for this "performance size" model.

I think its pretty much the original spec. I'm having problems downloading the catalogue. (corrections are most welcome)

Frame: 17" Neon green base color with blue and white splatter
Drivetrain, Brakes, Pedals, Hubs: Shimano xt
Seat, Seatpost, Handlebar, Rims: Avenir
Stem, Headset, Bottle cage: Tioga
Grips, Chainstay Protector: Diamond Back
Tires: Panaracer Smoke

Here are some pictures...enjoy.

Re:

Very nice. I picked one up about 3 years ago off Ebay to rob parts to build my own '92 Axis back up. Held onto the frame for a while, almost got rid of it, and my daughter said she wanted it since it was "neon green" - perfect excuse to start another project. So, I re-built it back up with parts I had & a few bought online. It looks like yours is completely original, aside from the bolts on the brake straddle cable which look a little different. I'm a little envious, as you have the original fork & looks like the paint is still very deep green, not all faded like mine :) Anyway, enjoy, as this was top-of-the-line for 1991, and a very sweet-looking & performing bike :)

As it came:

Re:

awesome bike! especially given its all original! I wanted one of these bad as a kid when I saw it in my local bike shop, and I'd still like to get my hands on one just like yours. enjoy!

Awesome find, really trick looking bike! Amazing to find one that original and with healthy paint to boot.

Yeah, I personally like the color too, and nowadays neon is getting so popular.

Millsm- may I know the handlebar length?

Re:

Sure, the handlebar is 22" (56cm) wide. I actually scored the handlebar/stem combo on Ebay for $30 - pretty good for the condition & age. I'm sure these came off a Diamondback of the same era, as these were stock for those years.

Re:

Cool bike, very rare, always been on my want list, nice to see one as original as that.
