I bought this last year from Stewlewis, thanks again chap :)

I had intended to build it quicker but things didn't go to plan. Its a 1997 (I believe) Univega Alpina Racelite 500, it is in very nice condition and pretty light too. Dare I say it but my plan is to make a fast and nimble slick tyre Mountain bike for using on tarmac, tow path, canals etc. I have fitted some Sun Chinook rims with deore lx hubs and some Schwalbe Cityjets so far.

I am going to fit some new Deore V brakes, I have in the parts bin.

I am undecided on what crank to fit that will suit the build, it needs hill friendly gears and one to get moving on the flats/downhills - any suggestions of anyone have any for sale :)

Here is how it stands - hopefully this one will get finished

I also have another set of wheels for when I take it off road. Smaller house = no room for 2 bikes :(

Nice bike. Compact triple would be more period correct I would think. I'd go XT. If you wanted bigger gears go with an earlier vintage non compact set up or a touring tripple from the mid 80's like a Sugino AT?

Re:

Not much love for the Univega

Here is how she stands at the moment, just a front mech and a couple of cables and she will be blasting along the tarmac ;)
