Was it only 1991 where Marin made the Pine Mountain in black (possibly Zoltan Grey) with orange stem & forks?

Did they make any other bikes in their range with the black/orange combo?

Were they all XT all over or was it a mix of XT/LX/DX?

How high up the range was the Pine Mountain back in the day? Was it next down the hierarchy after the team bikes?

1991 was dark grey zolatone with orange combo, 1990 was light grey zolatone and 1992 was black front triangle with orange back end and stem all with xt dx mix if i remember correctly.

In those years the Eldridge had a neon red but was very orange (especially if left in the sun to fade) which shared the same frameset and the Pine Moutain was the next step down from the Team marin in the steel frame range.

Re:

The 1991 pine had a XT/DX mix.

XT shifters, rear mech...most of the rest DX. hubs, cranks..etc..

Quite right, the 91 eldridge turned orange very quick, once it left the bike shop actually! This model had mainly Deore LX with DX cantis and shifters.

A fresh pine mountain is a lovely bike, really striking.

Nowt was black until '92. However dirty or shabby the zolatone, it's unmistakably grey with a slight sandy texture.

Bit more info if you're planning on buying a 90/91/92 PineM - the seatposts are prone to be seized in place. Always worth checking this with the seller when buying on eBay as people don't tend to mention it. ;)

I've bought 2x Marins of the zolatone era with stuck posts and a friend has bought one also. Not the end of the world but can be a huge pain in the butt to sort out. :)
