Curious; why the road / touring F&R mechs?

The Road mechs I have found to be smoother and quicker, and i really wanted thumbies, so the dura-ace seemed like a solid set up. The added bonus is that the aesthetics are cleaner and less deliberately designed, smooth polished metal rather than parts that look like the terminators crotch.
