Everyone, meet Glen, short for Glengarry Glen Ross.

Back in 1990, it seems that Credit Suisse Auto Leasing held a sales contest. First prize was apparently the Cadillac of Swiss mountain bikes, second place was possibly a fondue set, but third place was probably not, "You're fired!"

Shortly after winning the bike, the owner moved to South America for more than 20 years. Normally, lubricating a bicycle chain with motor oil is a bad idea, but if a mountain bike is going to be locked in a garage until it reaches adulthood, it works pretty well as a preservative measure.

Anyway, since the first year, push-push Rapidfire front shifter didn't work (surprise, surprise), the owner accepted a significant reduction from his asking price. I used the front derailleur limit screws to lock the bike in the middle ring, and rode it home; likely over more kilometers, in more rain and through more mud than it had ever been exposed to before.

After a little clean-up, swapping on some thumbies, and adding clips & straps & an Italian-made copy of a Hite-Rite, Glen is now properly trail-tested. Oh, and for those of you wondering what Verago means in French or Italian, it's typically Swiss-German and straightforward, standing for VElo- und RAhmenbau GOmmiswald, meaning bicycle and framebuilding in the town of Gommiswald.

Thanks for your time and attention,
The Kid
