There's another thread with another one of these. I had never seen one like it before ... than two in one week! Little bit of repeat here. I am looking to get this thing back to spec, whatever that spec is. This one will take a while I think.

From what I understand, this is a "for racing only" M2 frame. I believe you could get it through shop with a registered specialized race team or direct if you were a racer (and sponsored). Possibly you got the frame and than a "package" of high end components (like the 1995 M2 S Works teams).

The livery is the big diff from other M2s. Ned Overend retired in 1996 so perhaps that has something to do with my his name is on it and the livery may have something to do with the 1996 Olympics (white with specialized in the Olympic rings colours), but that's just a guess.

Specs on the bike as I got it.
(I think a mix of replacement parts and the S Works component group from 1995.)

Lovely bike!

Love the color and the rainbow decals!

More pics needed though! ;)

That is beautiful, a really great find.

Re:

Thanks guys. The frame is just at my LBS getting the nos headset fitted. Its been there a while ... hopefully back today and than I have most of the component group I need for it. It will be a mix of XT 739 with XT 950 derailleurs. I couldn't find the info I needed on the S works components packages for '96 anywhere so I am going to put a nice package on it that will ride well.

New rubber and seat should also arrive this week :)

This will be my retro rider for the summer I think.

Re:

I got the frame back. New Tange headset installed, basically the same unit that was on it before but new.

The only other new parts are the tires - NOS Specialized Masters

Just doing some fitting and taking a good look at the parts to see what is actually usable after I disassembled it and cleaned everything. This was a real race bike so its no garage queen.

Parts Pictured:
- Specialized Wheelsmith S-Works Z-21 front wheel with Hugi hub, Ti Specialized QRs, and Sun CR17A rear wheel with Sachs hub and XTR M900 cassettle. Cassette looks good. The front is ok, but I wanted to ride this thing so I will probably put one of my other wheelsets for reliability.
- Specialized Ti Stem ... I will likely use something else.
- Sakae Ti bar ... looks good.
- Specialized seatpost
- Rockshox FSX Judys ... in good working order.

Still waiting on the saddle :?

Re:

All setup for riding. The only thing I would like to find is another crank. Nothing wrong with the XT 737. A Specialized Strong Arm would likely be the right spec. I have a raceface turbine that might also look better.

Neat bike ... not awe inspiring, but likely the rarest thing I own. They only made 50 of these frames according the my inquiries at Specialized and some were ridden at the Atlanta Olympics by their team riders. Apparently Ned's first year of running the race team or something post retirement.

If anyone has any shots of Atlanta with one of these bikes in it I`d love to see it.

Pics sorta stink. Its so white its tough to photograph in the bright sun. I`ll take some shots of it on the trail all muddy again :)

Re: 1996 Specialized "Ned Overend" S-Works "FRO" M2 Team

It's a beauty!!

What Strongarm crankset are you looking for. I might have some available... Even a S-Works crankset...

Re:

Thank :)

The first generation Strong Arm. Square taper ... Not sure if it's the stamped s works one. I think that is a later model.
