I am building on of these, I have frame set and brakes, on the look out for 732 stuff...

Have you just bought this? If so what are the plans?

I am currently stripping mine for a powder coat, hoping I can find a suitable bluey grey.

Surely you can find a decent enough company to mix some up for you but don't try halfords ;) ..

I won't be going near it with a rattle can! I held off of a build thread as it is going to take a while to buy everything I need. You often read how good these are to ride, what is your experience?

Not much, the tires are perished and need changing. I didn't get much time on the bike, but what I noticed was the riding position and the weight, very light!

As for plans strip, degrease and rebuild. I've looked at some other stumjumper threads and a re-spray or powder coat is an option and then I might have to sell due to lack of storage space!

I will be watching this with interest, sounds like a good plan. I have been holding out for the right parts but keep getting tempted to build mine up so I can ride it!

I've never ridden one of the comps tbh but back in 1989 i was going out for rides with my then mate who had a Team Stump jumper and that felt very responsive almost twitchy in my opinion which made me a little wary at 1st but to the dismay of my friend i grew to love it really quickly   and if i remember correctly the chainstays are about 15" which improved up hill traction compared to the majority of mtb's which had 17" stays which meant hanging over the rear wheel alot on steep climbs ..

Re:

Took the bike out for a ride today, cycled to the local supermarket and the bikes ride is quite good, the steering is responsive and the weight, it is so light. The riding position is ok and similar to my old '93 Marin Pine Mountain

As for rebuild, there's not much work required there is some minor surface rust, no pitting and no dings, dents or cracks. :D
