RE: fit of rage.

I once got so mad at a stuck post that I locked a monkey wrench around the head of the post, got a three foot cheater bar and with a pillow strapped to my chest gave it an all mighty pull. Much like the saddle in your story, I too thought I was successful until I realized that I had spun the seat tube into what could best be described as a pretzel.

i used a masonry drill bit with its protruding side bits filed down and just drilled the post out, worked a treat and didn't damaged the tube at all, it left a slither of post still inside , and just used a screwdriver to remove that last bit.

Rage, anger and medieval hand tools. Love it. It can only get better or worse with chemicals.

The caustic soda works just make sure that the mixture is strong enough. I removed a seatpost and a stem quill from my T-Max with this method. It foams and spits and produces a ton of heat but it will clean it out. Just make sure there aren't any aluminum bits on the frame that you want to keep as this will make short work of them.
