My "first" retro build :D = JMC Stumpjumper =

Retro Guru
So.

Jim McRoy sent me a small package. Amongst the paper and the bubble wrap there was a letter, which I read, and was humbly reduced to a quivering pile of tears.

Behind the letter was a Chicago bulls Pin badge, a Blue Z card, and a XSW beanie.

2 weeks later I was made redundant from work. UREKA! I thought to myself!!! I'll build a JMC replica stumpjumper!!!

so with some of my redundancy money, I sold my downhill bike, and Found a brand spanking almost new (18 years ago) stumpjumper in 15.5 inches and red on't Bay!.
aquired a couple of parts here *thank you to those involved*.
and went over budget. :(

it'll be here soooooon, and so I shall be taking out the 7d and posting some lovely pictures.

God knows what I was thinking, but it's coming. and it's going to be sexy. .

also if anyone wants to give me a hand feel free :D

Re: My "first" retro build :D

Came this morning . VERY clean. Few pics =D

Transformation begins soon. waiting for the rest of the parts to come ;D

Re: My "first" retro build :D

Very cool. I take it your going for a replica of the one he rode on the 'dirt' video?

I remember seeing an interview with him saying kids took the mick out of that bike because it had mis matched grips... And If i remember right it had the carbon specialized/rockshox fork too?

And some HUGE Azonic DH bars....

Re: My "first" retro build :D

They might not be what he used, but they're a million times better that what was originally in them, so I'd stick with 'em!

This is going to be one seriously sexy bike.

Azonic Shorty Stem
Azonic 2.5" rise bars
X-Rays
Avid Cantis & Levers
Mavic 121(?) Ceramics on XTR M9** hubs(?) (I think he used the slightly later silver XTR "Parralax" hubs, especially on the front)
M900 Cranks
M900 Rear Mech & possibly M900 cassette
Prolong Saddle

Mmmmmmmmmm

Here you go - for inspiration! I want to see a picture of you doing the exact same thing once you've got it built!

Re: My "first" retro build :D

he didn't run xtr hubs as far as I remember when I seen it he was running an original set of hopes... I might be wrong like

Xrays with green covers, yellow ules and Avid silver/red canti levers are in the mail!
I've got the bars. waiting for a stem..

and we're going to whitby to do that exact same foot out skid!!

I DO however need to source a sticker set for the forks

:D but I'm one excited bunny this week :p

*more pics to come.. gonna clean her and get the forks on*

Re: My "first" retro build :D

I'm interested in the Englund set if you don't want them and I know someone who can help you with the decals for the forj!

Love this so far. I was thinking about doing something similar but you've beat me to it

Is it a 94 or 95 s works frame or just a regular Stumpy frame?

Can't wait to see the progress and good luck :)
