Bought this from tufftimes, and pyro tim very kindly picked it up for me last week. Anyway, it arrived last Tuesday and, as I was slap bang in the middle of moving into our new house, I didn't have much time to set it up.

It's set up now, and ready for it's first little spin today. Notice the lovely XT cranks which pyro tim fitted to replace the modern Alivio ones which were originally on it (thanks Tim!). The only other thing I've done is swap the black handlebars over for the silver RaceLight ones which were bundled in with the bike. I plan to get some Deore thumbies for it, and to swap the existing STI units over for some nice Kona brake levers which were also included with the bike.

Long term plans are to have it stripped and resprayed (I've yet to decide on the colour!) and built up with some nice functional kit - as I now have the cranks I was thinking of going with XT 730 or possibly mixing and matching a bit of DX with it (I prefer the look of the DX shifters and rear mech!).

But, for now, it's a perfectly solid machine and I'll enjoy riding it around and putting a few more scratches on it no doubt ;)

Very nice! I do like the colour scheme though, you thinking of repainting it the same?
Gorgeous bike!

I'm not sure really... Part of me wants to keep it the same for originality sake, but then I've seen some of the gorgeous custom ones on here and I'm very tempted to do something similar!

Does it really need a re-spray? Some gentle coaxing with some lighter fluid would remove the non-standard decals...the paint looks proper nice.

Yep, it does need one. The paint has rubbed off in places, and the paint on the fork legs has started to bubble in places.

What else you going to do with it?

For now, nothing. It's perfectly rideable as it is and I'm going to use it to explore a few trails around where I live (we've recently moved house).

Eventually I'm going to have it stripped and sprayed, and then built back up with some nice mid range kit (DX/XT). I'll keep the cranks, brakes, stem and forks, but pretty much everything else will be replaced.

I don't want to spend loads on it, but I want to make it into a nice 'everyday' kind of bike.

Of course, all that could change as I've currently also got my eye on a nice Kilauea frameset. So it may be that I'll buy that when funds allow, and spend the time and money building that up nicely, and keep the Lava Dome as it is and using it as a daily rider :D

I love the colour of the 95 Cindercone :) Not period though

Period correct paint is going to be the last of my concerns ;)

Part of me wants to have it repainted in Fat Chance Grello  ... Another idea of mine is to have it resprayed in Bayside Blue or Midnight Purple

Yes, I'm a massive Skyline fan. There will be one in Llantwit before long ;)

MMMM Blue Skyline. I just sold my Autoart model of the R34 a while ago. That was the Midnight Purple.
