Just bought a nickel P7 from Chairmanmo as my second retrobike so thought Id start a thread (incase I go wrong)
Been after one for a long time and the plan is to use the STX RC groupset from my C16,I think its mostly 1998 stuff with Vbrakes,a bit out of the frames 95 date but not too far, also have an SK9 stem and hot rod bars but dont know whether to use this with a converter or use the original, any suggestions either way? Also my chainrings are a bit crap so looking into going 26,36,48 for a change.Should be cooking on gas next weekend so Ill stick some piccys on as stuff turns up,cheers

Just to clarify, do you mean an sk8 quill stem or an sk9 ahead stem you have or both. For me I would go with an sk8 as I think the skinny look works well with the nickel... But I would keep an sk9 handy for the day you stick some rc36 with inch ahead steerer.

Good luck with your build.

P7

IMHO I would stick with Rigid forks, the head angle on these are pretty slack and with the built in cant on Pace RC 36 forks, it will steer like a barge in a headwind. It really needs shortish 39/41cm axle to crown fork height, to handle and look it's best.

Just got a set of deore 510 26,36,48 chainrings and some other bits so should be able to put the p7 together at weekend, will stick with the Sk8 stem to start with

rc 35's look and handle pretty good on these era p7's (although I'm biased)

Second that, 36's are too long and slack angled. Your off for some high gearing with those ratio's though? Any pics yet?

My daily riding at tbis time of year is mostly on hard surface a d I spend most of the time on the biggest chainring but would like to go a bit quicker ,also the STX RC rings are a bit worse for wear, waitng for frame to arrive so will get some pics up as soon as stuff starts to arrive....cant wait...always wanted a nickel P7

Well I got all the bits toghether and built it this afternoon, its the first geared bike Ive completely assembled on my own and I think its gone ok,a few cables need shortening but Im quite happy as it goes. The spec is as follows:
1995 Orange P7 with F7 forks
STX RC groupset although Ive changed the rings to 26,26,48.I believe its a 98 groupset with V brakes
Ritchey headset
Mavic 238 front and X138 rear on Stx rc hubs (I think)
SK8 stem
Hot Rod bars
Original Orange seatpost and my old Orange Enduro seat,(which is in need of a refurb.
