I really, really, really want an Eighties Stumpjumper (even a Rockhopper...a Hardrock too, why not?) I'm very jealous, Bart. I'm even more jealous of the price you acquired this for

I look forward with anticipation to it's re-vamp :).

That's a great bike Bart :D Do you know what components are on it?

Cheers,
Will

It's a mix of XT and DX! All XT except for rear mech, pedals, hubs and crank. Those are DX. Will replace them with XT once it arrives!

Thanks for this info. I've got one too and mine has a mix of LX (yours DX) and XT. I'm also replacing all the LX parts for XT. I'm still looking for a black XT M732 rear hub....

Bart, it's a great bike and a nice piece for your collection! Enjoy :D

Cheers,
Will

Are you sure about the year? The paint scheme says 1989, but the U-brake beneath the chain stays are indicating 1988 iirc.

And were there Epic MTBs before 1990?

Yep! Pretty sure! http://mombat.org/Specialized_Specs.htm

The Epic's weren't in the '89 cataloge, but could be ordered on special delivery!

Thanks for the link! Really new to me. :D

Here are the first pics. The stem, shifters and levers went directly into the bin and this is what's left! Need some new decals and some TLC. Anther project!
