Hi all, just joined as I've picked up a MINT condition 1994 M-Trax 1000, K2 Cromoly frame, full Alivio etc. Even still has the original tyres!!

Here's a picture as I got it, a little dusty so its being stripped for a clean and regrease very soon:

Even the protector sticker for the chain is intact!! Like the bike has never been used! :)

I've been looking for one of these bikes for quite a few years now but had to be in excellent or mint condition. I had one in 1994 which I built from scratch. Neighbour worked for Raleigh and got me the frame set and i built it with full XT at the time. A few months later it was stolen and I've always wanted another and the time was right now!!

Just a couple of things though, the crank arms have a bit of corrosion on them (looks like spots etc) anyway of getting this off to restore it all to original condition??? It can just be seen in the pictures above. Also, seat post size as the post is corroding and being steel has rust spots on so want to look to get it replaced with one similar etc. Oh and the saddle will be going...Its hooooge!!!

Doesn't look like original saddle though. What size is it?
I'm interested in seatpost size too. Mine is just the frame. Supposedly a 27.0

bike was advertised at 16" but i think its 17" as far as i know they didn't do one smaller than 17". The saddle isn't original, was a lady owner so its a beefy sized gel saddle. That'll be going soon! Front mech is also stx rather than alivio, its of the correct year but wondering if it had alivio when new or if it was one that had stx put on because they'd ran out of alivio mechs???!!!

Either way i love it! :D

Sanding/Polishing this out is VERY hard work. Autosol do a polish for anodized alloy but I haven't tried it.

You're better off just replacing it with something better of the same vintage. STX chainsets are probably not much lighter because they use steel rings but at least they're replaceable and look miles better. STX stuff sells very cheaply on the forum and eBay.

I'm thinking of keeping everything alivio on it, just as it came out the factory. Hence why i wanna try and polish up the crank arms. Stripped everything off the frame last night to clean the frame...it is mint, struggling to find a single scuff or scratch! :D Think i got lucky with this one...most i've seen over a few years are battered!

Cheers for the comments! Saddle being changed soon and shimano m520 clipless pedals are going on then i'll get more pictures! :)

M-trax

I'd swap the seat post and saddle as well as the chainset and insert a nice Ti BB (thay all weigh a tonne) Leave everything else stock, lovely colourway too!

Just a little update!

I have decided to try and put as much XT on it as possible from the year the bike was originally made (1994). So far i have made a start by locating some brand new XT shifters and brake levers!! shimano M737's!!

The bike has been fully cleaned and regreased and has been out for a few rides to check and set up everything and all seems well! still gotta get a new saddle...i use a specialised 143 width saddle on my other bike so will probably get the same for this one too when funds allow!

Will get some pictures of the bike now she's all clean when the rain stops!

:D
