Well i dont know where to start other than to say this is my first retro build and loving every second of it.

I bought this baby fully built in the spring off ebay (many thanks to the-duke for outing her)and was over the moon with it from the word go.It had a full M737 XT kit on it and was a very plain and simple build which was fine by me as these things dont need the bling that maybe some other bikes need.

On closer inspection it had plenty of scratches and had loads of paint missing so decided pretty early on i would get her respayed back to how she would of been when she left Croydon.

Build wise ive always wanted a simple steel bike fully rigid with M732 XT from the days when i got into the mountain biking lark so that was 1989/90 for me. Those days of lusting after Killi flyer comps,Team Marins,Stumpjumper Teams ect ect really have stayed in my memory.

The days of when you actually went out mountain biking you felt abit special or different just becouse BITD there wasnt many of us around in the woods and if you ever came across anyone else on a mountain bike you would always stop for a chit chat and perve at each others bikes.

So the build that im doing kind of reflects my fave years so its 1989/90 so
id been collecting the odd component before i bought this knowing full well what i what after which was either a White Spider or a DB and that i would adorn the bike with my memorys i guess.

Sounds like some old shit i know but never mind eh.

Anyway im not here to do a history lession just to show how far i am really and apologies for the crap inside my shed photos as its been pissing down in Somerset today

Nice recovery..being nosey how much did argos charge? you can pm me if the mrs reads the boards

It cost £280 which is alot of money really and their was a gap of about a couple of months from getting the bike to then getting in a car to Argos just to save some dosh.I know you could go to a local powder coat company but wanted a proper job done and decals really.

I must admit i spent some time on deciding either to send it back to Chas Roberts or do a 45 minute drive to Argos and considering some of the negative feedback Argos has had on here i was abit unsure.

What i really wanted to do was take it in by hand and acually speek to someone rather than put it in a box and ship it to London (i didnt fancy the drive).Roberts wanted the same money but the shipping there and back was another £50 or so.

I couldnt keep my smile off my face when i saw the frame painted like new and now i feel the price was well worth the money and the guys at Argos are top notch.

'89 / '90 - the golden years... And a Roberts is a work of art - looking forward to seeing this get done.
