1993 Ibis Scorcher

A recent acquisition. This one didn’t need much work. A very cool and unusual bike. Ibis made 100 of these. It was the brainchild of Wes Williams -- their primary welder at the time.

Here are some pics. Full gallery here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/halaburt/sets/72157629688086198/

I’ll get the build specs and some interesting Scorcher article links posted up tomorrow, along with some more details on the work needed to get the bike into this shape.

Very cool. Looks immaculate and exactly to spec - where did you find those tyres?

The tires are the originals (at least as far as I can tell). The previous (and first/only other) owner was an Ibis employee BITD. He used it mostly has a fixed gear road bike with different bars and perhaps skinnier tires -- which would account for the good condition of these.

Thankfully he saved most of the original parts. Here's the build sheet for it. I replaced the worn chain, brake cable with modern functional-equivalents of the original parts. The original seatpost was missing and I used a modern Kalloy which is a very close approximation of the original SR. The pedals were gone as well, so those are vintage-correct replacements including the clips and straps.

Another interesting note: Ibis bent the brake levers handle to better conform to the curved shape of the bars. Most Scorchers I've seen use the US-standard left hand location for the brake lever. Because this owner was a motorcycle enthusiast, he had his bent for a right hand placement.
