I happened upon this frame while looking for a steel lava dome/cindercone to sit alongside my AA.. The chap i contacted on here looking to buy his lava dome suggested i may be interested in his kula frame..Not really interested i said as i had a decent alloy kona..He said he would send pics anyway and i like to see nice pics of frames so why not..!

Upon seeing first image i knew i was buying :) And the plan was hatched to flog AA frame and transfer parts..?

Tracing the sale of this frame back it was owned by 3 retro biker's on here
not including original owner..

These were two of the images that sold me frame :)

This is the donor bike..

Yes i know what your thinking..!! Me too.. The frame merits some respect
so i have been picking up a few different parts and tweaking a few things..

Polished these up..

Picked up silver spider(have black too but silver looks best) to me anyway..

Had fork lowers powdercoated and new/old 95 style decals put on..

Will be assembling the bike over the next week..
Have some black raceface to go on black king headset and some xtr bits too..

All thoughts good and bad welcome..

Cheers

Col :)

Few more bits to go on..Not feeling the love for the gold jockey wheels(had these kicking around spares box) anyone fancy a swap for silver in similar condition or new with cash..? These had light use and spin smooth..

Not a purist build i know but this will be a regular rider and my lava dome
is pretty much a period build..

Plan is to use this bike for the selkirk marathon(if i get it ready ! )

The minty nature of frame made me realise i can't just throw a mix of iffy
parts on ..

Tips/Advice/Scorn welcome :)

A very nice frame you got there!
I like the approach with the gold painted Marcocchis.
The pewter finish of the 950 stuff doesn't really blend in with the other colours though...
Good choice with the Middleburns!

Do you got a pic of the Headtube spiral? I'm curious about those from '95.

Greetz Dan

ps. I think a '96 XT Group (first with V-Brakes) would be a better match (looks wise) with this frame. Except for the hubs and Cranks.

I'm wondering whether I might have been one of the previous owners?!

Here's mine, when I owned it:

Thanks for the headbadge pic mate, helps me to date my Hei Hei!

On the grips, the orange might be overkill, but could also blend in nicely. Depends on the match with the decals. The gold clamps on them are really cool.

Saddle the same, though the orange isn't as much in your face...

Looking forward to see it put together!

Greets Dan

ps. hope you are allright with the use of your pic in my Hei Hei thread!

Now together... I thought the grey/black/silver would be bit dull but i think it makes the frame shine :)

Jumping off the lava dome(canti brakes) the xtr v's feel like a stick in the spokes..! Wait till i jump on the disc braked genesis..

I await incoming flak ;)
