Took a punt on this the other day on the 'bay.

Its turned up and is a nice little bike - can anyone advise as to the year?

The frame/fork is very nicely made and in really good condition.

I am going to upgrade a few parts with period XT bits (rear mech, crank arms, thumbies and brake levers) giver her a new set of rubber and cables and a saddle (Avocet R1) and get it out on the trails:

It is also forming part of my get fit for HONC and ride to work plan - maybe.

Nice looking Marin :D
Be interesting to pedal the cranks like that

Yes - they are actually self aligning like that having a round non drive side taper

Thanks for the info chaps '89 it is! That suits me as I've got a few XTII bits :D

Here's the start - new saddle - '89 Avocet Racing. Some numb nuts had chopped a few inches off the seat post  luckily I had a nice 26.4 Strong in the bits box :D

Makes a big difference already I think:

Also found this little US flag which is a nice touch :D

Finished this today - nice and original

Some pics and for the record and it's off to a new owner :)

If I were keeping it then it would need some new thumbies but the ones it has work OK.

Thinking I might regret letting this one go!
