Raleigh Mustang - bottom bracket / spindle query

Hi

I'm wondering if anyone might be able to help advise me on replacing a bottom bracket on a late 80s Raleigh Mustang I'm trying to keep on the road. The thread on the chainset crank has stripped and the crank has seized onto the spindle. I've removed the entire assembly and it seems it has adjustable cups on both sides (both needing a pin spanner), and the one on the chainset side has a locknut between the cup and chainset. So nothing threads into the frame. I attach some pics, minus the bearings and races.

I can't find anything remotely like it online - could anyone advise as to what would be a suitable replacement, or means of changing to a cartridge type?

Many thanks for any help.

Its basically got a BMX press-fit bottom bracket shell, hence no threads in it. You'll need Raleigh replacement parts. Old skool Raleigh dealers from BITD, or old skool duty LBS should be able to help.

does it matter that the crank is seized?

if not, is it possible to re-cut the threads that are worn and replace it with some nice fresh bearings & grease?

failing that, re: the stuck crank. what methods have you tried to remove it? my approach is as follows (once the threads are re-cut)

a crank extractor is step 1
add heat to the crank taper with heatgun / blow torch is step 2
soak the bugger in plusgas for a few days then repeat 1 & 2 is step 3

step 4 is a touch more brutal & involves a 5lb rubber mallet, a house brick & a cut-down allen key!

Thanks guys. The chainset does need to come off yes, as I can't get a spanner to the locknut between it and the cup!

Having realised it's basically a BMX BB, I'm thinking I might punch out the press-fit cups, try one of these: http://www.winstanleysbmx.com/product/2 ... et_Adapter and then go with a standard 68mm cartridge BB.

Will let you know progress. Thanks again for advice.
