1994 Alves 753

Merlin

Old School Hero
This started off as a spare 1" threaded Kona Project 2 fork and I asked Charles Ralph to make a nice frame to enable me to use the forks and the bike grew from there.

Frame Reynolds 753, fillet brazed, forks Project 2 painted to match frame

Wheels - Campag Record Off-Road hubs, Campag Stheno rims, 36 hole, Air B tubes, City Slicker tyres or Panracer Smoke/Dart according to my mood

Groupset Campagnolo Record Off-Road
Chainset - 42, 30, 20, Cassette 8 speed 11-22

Seatpost - Campag steel

Saddle - Flite Titanium

Stem - ITM titanium

Bars - Hyperlite, Bar ends (forgotten, I am sure someone will recognise them)

Headset - Stronglight Delta

Chain - Rohloff (needs a clean)

Alves

If you search Alves on this site you will get some information which I can't really add to as my last communication with Charles Ralph, who built Alves frames, was when I took delivery of this frame. He had made a 531 frame with Rockshox forks for me a couple of years before.

If anyone has any up to date info. about Charles Ralph I would be interested. He was very impressive in all the dealings I had with him but I understand he is no longer a frame builder.

Your beautiful 753 bike rather puts mine to shame, I had better start cleaning.

Paul.

The frame is very unique/a keeper. Couldn't make out the wording/script on the top tube from the pics though.

It is just my name so that I can recognise it in a bike rack.
