Right, very interested; some questions:
1 - what was the problem?
2 - where can you find replacement boards?
3 - is it possible to replace the board without realigning the frame? Because the guys at Sling Shot told me not
The guys as Slingshot ran across a stash of the original board material and are currently offering replacement service.
These boards most often failed by the fiberglass delaminating or cracking in line with the fibers.
The frame must be aligned during curing of the epoxy to insure a ridable bike.
I believe there is a thread on this on MTBR, quite recent.
FYI...the "original" board material was a section of Corvette leaf spring that came out of a junk yard...the inspriration for design is truly unbridled in the cycling industry.
Yes this frame had delamination along the fibers of the fiberboard.
At the time I contacted the new SlingShot people and they were not doing
refurbs on old models. Through Mtbr Got a few names and eventually:
Scott Quiring.
He has some old fiberboards and was able to do the paint and board replacement.
As for alignment....time will tell.
