It's the first of January 2011. It's time to start a build thread of the 1991 Gary Fisher Mt Tam.

I bought this frame off Kingroon in May 2009. Was planning to rebuild it and have been collecting parts since then! I just finished collecting the parts and now it's time to get the frame resprayed and service the forks. Gil made me some nice new decals and within a few weeks I will have the frame back from the spray-shop!

Most parts I have collected are NOS, others very minty! Got a new Nitto seatpost, NOS Fisher stem and bar and even NOS Fisher tires!! And of course NOS XT parts.

I will start of with a pic of the frame I got from Kingroon:

And how it is going to be......

Will post pics of all the parts soon!

Here are some pics of the parts I have been collecting!

Not sure what brakes to use: M732 or M734?? Both were used in 1991 and I don't know which ones were original on the Mt Tam. Does anybody know?

This is how it is at the moment. It's gone be resprayed in the next weeks!

No pics of the tires and wheels yet.

Nice gathering of bits for this build.

Regarding the brakes....in my lowly opinion, I like the look of the M732 better than the low profile.

Good luck with the build.

I could also upgrade! I have some BR-M900?!?!

M732 brakes.....still my choice. Matching XT stuff looks nice.

When are you expecting the repaint to be done? I want to see this nice project as it moves along.

Silver or black?

I have a few options for company's for painting it and hope to make a decision this week! Still not sure about the correct color

Very nice frame + parts! It's nice to see that people are so patient to search and collect parts for 1 or 2 years to compleet a build. I guess there's a learning curve for me in that

off topic: is there one very enthousiastic Bart bidding on lots of retro parts on marktplaats.nl or is it a coincidence?

I really like the bike and pink decals as pictured in the original photo above. Would you do it like that or don't you like it?

I prefer classic silver brakes but as you can see on my Merlin project I chose black because everything else was black. I would say it depends on the final colour of the frame and the other components.
