I purchased this Kona in 2008 as a birthday present for myself. I had wanted to build a bike with Deore XT-II, as it was the group set I always stared at on the pages of the Freewheel catalogue back in 1990, when all I had on my bike was Exage Trail.

The purchase included the frame, forks, headset, stem, seat post, and seat QR.

A couple of months ago I decided that I was going to change the build on this bike for a Suntour group, as I had other plans involving XT-II, plus the Kona bike from this period had Suntour groups anyway.

After collecting mostly Suntour XC Pro over the last couple of months and a selection of white gear and brake cable I was able to put together the build you see below

Thats an absolute minter (as all of your bikes seem to be) ;) Is it orignal paintwork ? I love my 1990 CC to bits and may just have to take it out for a spin

cheers guys

Yes paint is original

I will be riding tomorrow from the Cat & Fiddle with drystonepaul and others. I am hoping for less stone chips in the snow LOL

Saw this bike today and its another top notch build from Harrycrumb. The Suntour group really suits the frame. They just keep coming from you at the moment mate

Yup, another 'Bike of the Ride' winner from Martin.
It really is stunning in real life, he even crashed it too.

Here it is slightly lost in the snow yesterday...

Thanks for sharing the pics - lovely bike! I had a Lava Dome from the same year which I bought in 91, always loved early Konas.

Could I be cheeky and suggest that a tyre upgrade is in order? A nice pair of amberwall Smoke/ Dart maybe? (other than that it's perfecto!)
