GT RTS - Reborn and Updated!

Finally got my repaired and powder coated main frame back and the old RTS is almost finished! Just need a front derailleur to get it back on the trails. Drilled larger holes in frame cable mounts to allow full length gear cable housing. Finished fitting discs. (One day I'll get around to bleeding the Tektro brakes and run the hydraulic cables through the frame cable mounts as well). Marzocchis fitted... but need to wind down travel as they look a bit too high for the frame!!!

Parts are all left over from my GT Force 3 that have been replaced with upgrades over the last 3 years.

I like the modern take on the RTS.

It would be well worth trying to track down a noleen piggyback shock. I had one on an RTS a while ago and was amazed by the level of control it gave - much better than the forks.

As you have modern forks on yours I think the extra adjust ability of the piggyback shock would work wonders for your frame

I'm thinkin exactly the same. I'd really like an old RTS.

I've always wondered if the Noleen piggyback made much of a difference! Also, what about the aluminium rear triangle? Mine is the chromoly rear end and I've always wondered if the alu rear end with extra pivots made much of a difference?

Me too. an original RTS 1 is on my most wanted list.

i didn't notice any real change with the ali backend on my RTS
wee bit lighter and maybe a bit suppler on small stutter bumps
but the front ends the limitation on my one (mag 21's non long travel)
the peace of mind for the steel backends worth the weight imo

might build my other one with discs and better forks

Really liking some of the modern rebuilds of classics I've seen on here lately. This one is no exception.

Is it the back end on these that used to cause problems then?
