Now-Identified Cannondale - 92/93 crossover M500

This is my cannondale - i got her from the avon and somerset police auction a few years back to build into a commuting machine. she's not entirely faithful to her period because 1) i dont know when that is (i got into biking in 1996, faded out of it in 2000 and came back in 2005, so it's 96-ish stuff that i lust over and know about, and i know she's before that) 2) it has v-brakes because i dont want to die under a number 70 bus. 3) everything attached to her was shot to hell - it was all exage 400LX stuff and it was all dead.

any help in identifying her would be great - i like being able to name things, and at the mo she's just "the cannondale"

With a 1" headset it must be pre-1992. I´ve got a frame from 1992 with the same dropouts, 27.2 seatpost but it´s got 1 1/4" headset.

M700?

at the mo evidence points to a 1991 M700, but in just-my-luck style vintagecannondale doesnt have a 91 catalogue

in a fit of wanting to treat the old lady right, she now has flat bars that i found in the back of a cupboard. quill stems rock - why did they ever get replaced with a-head? did people get bored of having good height adjustment?

2 days here and the bug has bitten. i gave her a mountain look this evening using my kona's wheels. if i didnt need her for road running, she might stay like this

Most probably M400

It can't be a '91 M700, it's not coloured right. 1991 M700 was black with lime splatters and in the USA there was also a violet/black shade option.

I don't think that the fork is Ritchey Logic either but a cheaper CroMo one.
If it had Exage 400 parts, it's probably a M400 (or M500 at most but I doubt that). The year could be 1995-96.

groupset naming structure changed to alivio/stx/stx-rc etc well before 95.

i'm thinking you may be right on the m500 front though.
